Collections Specialist

Job Summary
Review aged accounts receivable, analyze account history, and determine proper collection approaches to ensure timely payment of invoices. Contact clients directly via telephone, email, and formal letters to resolve disputes, misunderstandings, and billing questions while maintaining confidentiality. Enter and maintain accurate collection activities in firm software, schedule follow-ups, and research resolutions for past due invoices. Prepare reports on collection status, provide updates to management and attorneys, and recommend write-offs or placement with outside agencies when necessary. Occasionally assist with cash receipt backups and support the Director of Receivables. Work in a normal office environment with occasional hours exceeding 37.5 weeks.
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of related financial experience in a professional services organization
- Working knowledge of credit practices
- Strong working knowledge of collection techniques
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work with all levels of personnel within the firm
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to effectively handle telephone calls with tact, diplomacy and professionalism
- Highly self-motivated, self-directed and attentive to detail
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills
- Ability to foster an atmosphere of support, teamwork and effective collaboration
- Work occasionally requires more than 37.5 hours per week
