Job Summary
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County seeks a Collections Manager of Entomology to oversee day-to-day operations of the entomology collection, including loans, cataloging, conservation, digitization projects, and facilitating researcher access. Responsibilities include documentation and database management (EMu), coordinating with other departments, supporting public programs and educational activities, and staying current with arthropod biology and museum best practices. The role requires collaboration within a team, experience with specimen handling and museum collections, and the ability to contribute to collection growth, digitization, and research efforts. Primary location is NHMLAC at Exposition Park, Los Angeles, with some off-site travel; regular full-time exempt position with annual salary of $69,000 plus benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least two years of technical experience in the collection, organization, care, use, and/or conservation of natural history specimens/collections
- Working knowledge of the taxonomy, natural history, and biology of terrestrial arthropods, including insects and/or arachnids
- Working knowledge of common specimen preparations, the organization and management of entomology/arachnology collections, and community standards and existing best practices for pinned and fluid-preserved specimens
- Experience with proper packing and shipping of specimens, including shipping regulations and documentation
- Experience with collections database software and common principles of biodiversity informatics
- Experience writing reports, grants, professional correspondence, and/or procedure documentation
