Job Summary
Coding Specialist at Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan will code orthopaedic procedures using CPT and ICD-10 based on provider documentation, including fracture care and MRI. Responsibilities include verifying insurance information, entering charges into the practice management system, monitoring surgeries, reconciling systems for billable services, abstracting and coding emergency documentation, ensuring chart accuracy, verifying facility documents in the EMR, communicating with providers about surgeries and reports, writing appeal letters for denied claims, reviewing charts, and assisting with coding consults and charge entry. Requires strong knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology, attention to detail, multitasking, professional demeanor, and proficiency with Office/Windows. Hours are full-time with a remote-enabled work environment and onsite training; located in Grand Rapids, MI (Hings: Michigan resident or relocation).
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of orthopaedic surgical coding OR professional coding certification
- Experience with general orthopedic coding, including: sports medicine, arthroscopic, and total joint replacement coding
- Experience working with multiple third party payers, including: commercial insurances, auto, worker’s comp, etc.
- High School Diploma/GED
