Job Summary
Coding Specialist analyzes physician/provider documentation in health records to determine principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures. Uses encoder software and ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS to assign codes with required modifiers; communicates effectively in writing and verbally and can work in a remote environment with minimal supervision. Requires two years of coding experience and relevant credentials (CCS or CPC) or completion of an AHIMA/AAPC coding program, or an associated degree in Health Information Management or related field. Office hours Monday–Friday; benefits include competitive pay, paid leave, and health insurance. Required Qualifications
- Two years of current coding experience
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Procedural Coder (CPC)
- Registered Health Information Administrator/Technician (RHIA/RHIT) or completion of an AHIMA-approved or AAPC-approved coding program
- Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or related field or equivalent experience
- Ability to use ICD and CPT coding systems
- Ability to utilize encoding software and Windows environment
