Job Summary
Monitor reports and assigned workqueues to ensure coding, charge submission, and accounts receivable follow-up occurs timely. Perform charge reconciliation to validate revenue capture, review denied claims for coding errors, and draft appeal letters based on physician documentation. Identify documentation issues, suggest improvements to physicians, and train staff on local and national coding policies. Collaborate with vendors and front-end staff to verify insurance information and respond to inquiries following compliance guidelines. Analyze denial trends to focus improvement initiatives and develop training documentation. Serve as a resource to physicians and management regarding reimbursement policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- equivalent combination or training and relevant work experience
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Good communication, interpersonal, and computer skills
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and patients
- Detail-oriented with high level of accuracy for reviewing charge batch submissions, analyzing and correcting coding denials, preparing, and presenting analyses
- Stays up to date with industry requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Familiar with standard office equipment
- Light, accurate keyboarding skills
- Score of 35 words per minute (wpm) or greater on the typing assessment
- Outpatient Coder - Cert
- Coding Spclst - Physician-Cert
- Certified Professional Coder
- Certified Coding Specialist
- Active status of certification
