Job Summary
Coder, Provider Practice — codes medical records for ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT across Rural Health clinic, PB clinic, and hospital professional services. Reviews documentation to assign accurate codes, ensures compliance with coding standards and NCCI edits, supports denial review and appeals, and communicates coding guidelines to physicians to improve documentation accuracy. Flexible hours and remote work option available within South Dakota; position requires an associate degree or coding certification with certification within one year if not already held. Responsibilities include maintaining documentation quality, collaborating in coding team meetings, and supporting ASC and hospital services as a subject matter expert.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Certification in Coding
- RHIA/RHIT/CPC/CPC-A/CCS/CCS-P/CCS-H/COC or equivalent
- Experience with ICD-10, HCPCS, CPT
- Knowledge of Medicare and commercial carrier workflows
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Desired Qualifications
- RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CPC-A, CCS, CCS-P, CCS-H, COC or other approved coding certifications
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology or Coding certification
- Experience with ICD-10, HCPCS, CPT coding
- Knowledge of Medicare/Commercial carrier workflows
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Familiarity with NCCI edits and RVUs
- Ability to provide guidance to physicians on documentation quality
