Job Summary
Abstract clinical information from medical records, charts, and documents to assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes according to established procedures. Work with coding databases to confirm DRG assignments while performing a variety of tasks under general supervision. Report to the Director of Health Information Management, relying on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Requires at least one year of coding acute care medical records experience using ICD and CPT systems, with a high school diploma or equivalent and preferred associate degree.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum, high school diploma or equivalent
- CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, eligible
- At least 1 year experience in coding acute care medical records using ICD and CPT coding systems
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field
Desired Qualifications
- Associates degree preferred
