Job Summary
Review discharge abstracts and patient charts to assign ICD-CM/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations. Perform daily charge audit reconciliation, monitor charge capture accuracy, and reconcile encounters within four days of service. Analyze coding errors to prevent recurrence and communicate findings to Patient Financial Services. Abstract pertinent clinical data for billing, internal reporting, and research, including DRG/APC grouping and POA indicator assignment. Maintain confidentiality, adhere to ethical coding standards, and complete assigned education as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of AHIMA / AAPC training course or comparable medical billing and coding certificate program
- Certified Coder with 0-2 Years of coding experience
- Certified Coder with 2 or more years of ICD10CM coding experience with WhidbeyHealth
- Certified Coder with 2 or more years of ICD10CM coding experience with WhidbeyHealth and demonstrated proficiency in ICD10CM coding
- Certified Coder with 2 or more years of ICD10CM coding experience with WhidbeyHealth and proven ability to code multiple services (LAB, DI, EMS, REHAB, CAM, LC, NS, RT, SC, WFO)
- Certified Coder with 2 or more years of ICD10CM coding experience with WhidbeyHealth and at least one additional service line (a service line is defined as IP, OBS, SDS, ED and/or MAC)
- Certified Coder with 2 or more years of ICD10CM coding experience with WhidbeyHealth and Professional Service Coding of E/M and CPT procedural coding for two or more areas (areas are defined as (Primary care, Walk in clinic, General Surgery, Orthopedics and/or Obstetrics/Gynecotics))
- Be able to perform all essential functions and competencies of the position with no current performance improvement documentation on file
- CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CIC, CRC or other valid AHIMA and/or AAPC coding certification
