Job Summary
Review electronic medical records to verify and assign accurate medical codes for diagnoses, procedures, and services performed by physicians and other qualified healthcare providers. Conduct edit checks on data prior to transmittal, correct errors, and analyze documentation for consistency, completeness, and compliance with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS regulations. Research and manage coding-related queries to clinical staff while communicating updates to leadership. Ensure all documents contain sufficient documentation to support diagnoses and treatments, maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to evolving laws and regulations.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential
- Working knowledge of current CPT and ICD10 codes
- Basic medical terminology
- Skill in operating computer, calculator, copiers, printer, telephone
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Demonstrate the initiative to provide quality of service and improve efficiency
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment while being professional, courteous and calm
- Understand and interpret policies and regulations
- Ability to compose queries in an understandable manner
- Regular and predictable attendance
Desired Qualifications
- Associates degree in medical coding or related field
- AAPC
- One-year FQHC medical billing and/or coding experience
