Job Summary
Enforces the City of Charleston Zoning Ordinance and State Building Codes as they pertain to existing structures/properties; conducts scheduled residential rental property inspections; receives and investigates complaints for code violations; issues warnings, fines, or summons to court; testifies in municipal court; coordinates demolition and asbestos survey requests; maintains and updates permitting data; engages with owners, utility companies, and community groups; conducts site checks and prepares documentation for Historic Preservation Clearance; participates in ongoing professional development and adapts to evolving codes.
Required Qualifications
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
- Requires some experience in demolition inspection or closely related experience.
- Must possess or obtain within one year of hire date ICC Property Maintenance Certification and State of West Virginia Property Maintenance Inspector License.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to read and speak the English language proficiently in order to communicate and interact with others; to understand and interpret safety instructions; and to respond to internal and external inquiries.
