Job Summary
Conduct specialized, technical inspections of city properties, buildings, and developments to ensure compliance with municipal, state, and federal regulations. Identify non-compliant concerns, compile data on code violations, and issue citations while taking photographs to gather evidence. Investigate alleged violations, communicate with developers and the public to address compliance issues, and testify in hearings for prosecution of Dallas City codes. Draft notices of violation, maintain inspection documents, and oversee training for subordinate staff. Travel throughout the city to perform systematic property maintenance inspections and address corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of experience interpreting and enforcing codes/ordinances, investigating code violations and/or issuing citations
- Valid drivers license with good driving record
- Current license as a Code Enforcement Officer issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
- Knowledge of municipal, state, and federal regulations
- Knowledge of inspection protocols, policies, and procedures
- Ability to determine code violations and suggest corrective action
- Ability to issue citations and communicate with various individuals
- Ability to interpret, educate, and apply regulations to correct compliance issues
- Ability to use computer programs, software, and equipment
- Ability to provide calm, professional, and excellent customer service
- Ability to manage time and complete multiple tasks
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
