Job Summary
Code Enforcement Officer responsible for conducting specialized inspections of single-family, multi-family, and commercial properties to ensure compliance with local codes and ordinances across municipal, land development, property maintenance, zoning, and business regulation areas. Duties include issuing notices and citations; responding to complaints; researching property and parcel information; preparing documentation and testifying in municipal court or before boards; coordinating contractor abatements; maintaining records; participating in community education on city regulations; and supporting on-call enforcement during after-hours, weekends, and holidays. Requires strong knowledge of code enforcement principles, ability to interpret laws and maps, effective public-facing communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects with limited supervision. Educational requirement is a High School Diploma or GED, with one year of related code enforcement/government experience or three years of customer service experience, and a Texas Class C Driver’s License; license to be obtained within one year of employment. Working conditions include office and field environments with exposure to weather, lifting up to 50 pounds, and on-call rotations.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Either one year of related code enforcement/government experience or three years of customer service experience
- Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
- Must obtain a Code Enforcement Officer or Code Enforcement Officer in Training license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) within one year of employment
