Job Summary
Coach student-athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition, while motivating them to develop an appreciation of the sport. Assist the head coach with instructing players in rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques; assess player skills, monitor performance during practice and competition, and inform the head coach of athletic progress. Work within the head coach's framework to determine game strategy, supervise athletes during practices and contests, and attend staff meetings for scouting assignments. Help plan and implement in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs, ensuring consistent attendance and full participation until all students leave. Maintain discipline, increase morale, and model appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators while managing public relations with media, the Booster Club, and volunteers.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the ICSD School Board
- Understanding of the proper administrative chain of command
- Ability to model and demonstrate activities and equipment used to develop basic skills or physical condition
- Knowledge of sport rules and strategies
- Ability to develop drill and practice activities that teach and enhance individual and team skill development
- Ability to plan and enforce appropriate safety and health rules and regulations
- Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to exhibit tact and patience
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Current coaching authorization through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners
- Required teaching certification
- Criminal Fingerprint/Background Check
Desired Qualifications
- Previous coaching experience in assigned sport
- Bachelor's degree
