Job Summary
Coach student-athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition while motivating them to develop an appreciation of the sport. Assist the head coach with instructing players on rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques, and help determine game strategy within the established framework. Supervise athletes during practices and contests, assess player skills, and monitor performance to keep the head coach informed. Attend staff meetings, carry out scouting assignments, and participate in planning conditioning and weight programs. Model sport-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators. Maintain discipline, increase morale, and implement school board-approved athletic policies. Arrive before and after events to prepare and assist with problems, while managing public relations with media, the Booster Club, and volunteers.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the ICSD School Board
- Understanding of the proper administrative chain of command
- Ability to model and demonstrate activities and equipment used to develop basic skills or physical condition
- Knowledge of sport rules and strategies
- Ability to develop drill and practice activities that teach and enhance individual and team skill development
- Ability to plan and enforce appropriate safety and health rules and regulations
- Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships
- Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to exhibit tact and patience
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Current coaching authorization through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners
- Required teaching certification
- Criminal Fingerprint/Background Check
Desired Qualifications
- Previous coaching experience in assigned sport
- Bachelor's degree
