Job Summary
Co-op opportunity at Philips in Latham, NY to assist in the design, assembly, and testing of cryogenic systems and superconducting magnets. You will troubleshoot mechanical issues, collaborate with engineers and scientists to implement design solutions, conduct experiments to evaluate prototype performance, and maintain/calibrate lab equipment to ensure accurate measurements. Candidates are pursuing a BS or MS in engineering, with hands-on lab experience, familiarity with safety protocols, 3D modeling, and strong analytical/problem-solving abilities. The role requires in-person presence at least 3 days per week and is an office/onsite assignment with field components at times; salary varies by degree level and is hourly with overtime eligibility. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a HealthTech environment, contributing to advanced cryogenic and vacuum systems work, while developing technical documentation and teamwork skills.
Required Qualifications
- Pursuing BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related engineering field
- Hands-on laboratory experience
- Knowledge of safety protocols and standards in a lab environment
- Experience with 3D modeling and engineering tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with teams to solve complex engineering problems
- Good attention to detail in documentation
- Willingness to perform experimental testing and calibrations
- Ability to understand and discuss mechanical systems, thermal systems, cryogenics or vacuum systems
- Basic circuit understanding or experience programming simple controllers
