Job Summary

Set up, operate, and adjust conventional machine tools by prescribing operational sequences, tooling, and speeds to produce pilot work pieces. Diagnose machine or tooling malfunctions causing production variances and make corrective adjustments while checking dimensions with precision instruments like micrometers and calipers. Operate machines through complete cycles to prove out setups and assist in training new operators. Coordinate closely with cell coordinators, production scheduling, and engineering to maintain schedules, quality, and costs. Works from route sheets and drawings under minimum supervision, maintaining assigned machines and work areas. Requires one year of production experience and ability to read complicated drawings and perform advanced shop math.

Required Qualifications

  • Requires trade knowledge in a specialized field or process and equivalent to short term trades training
  • Minimum one (1) year exposure to production environment
  • Requires use of complicated drawings
  • Requires advanced shop math and formulas
  • Requires precision measuring instruments such as caliper, micrometers, and scales
  • Setup involves knowledge of exacting tolerance setup procedures
  • Ability to diagnose machine or tooling malfunctions causing variances on production runs
  • Ability to take measures to make corrective adjustments
  • Ability to work from route sheets, part drawings, and specifications
  • Ability to use measuring instruments such as scales, micrometers, and calipers
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision and direction
  • Ability to coordinate activities closely with cell coordinators, production scheduling, and engineering
  • Required to purchase 'tools of the trade' when necessary
