Job Summary
Set up and operate CNC Swiss-type lathes to produce precision parts while performing in-process inspections using measuring tools to ensure adherence to specifications. Load raw materials, unload finished parts, and monitor machine operation for optimal performance. Troubleshoot minor machine malfunctions, interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to determine production sequences, and make necessary adjustments to maintain part quality and tool life. Maintain a clean work area and follow safety protocols. This role supports leading East Lansing manufacturing partners who prioritize quality over speed, with a salary range of $57,000 - $91,000.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3-5 years experience operating CNC Swiss-type lathes (e.g., Star, Citizen, Tsugami)
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications
- Strong understanding of G-code and M-code programming for adjustments and troubleshooting
- Ability to perform in-process quality checks using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, comparators)
- Experience with tool selection, offset adjustments, and preventative maintenance on Swiss machines
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with CAM software (e.g., PartMaker, Esprit) for programming Swiss machines
- Ability to perform basic preventative maintenance on machinery
- Strong understanding of GD&T principles and their application in manufacturing
- Experience operating multiple CNC machines simultaneously
- Forklift certification or experience
