CNC Programmer / Machinist - Lathe Focus

Job Summary
Program and operate CNC lathes for production and job shop work, creating, editing, and optimizing programs while selecting appropriate tooling, workholding, and machining strategies. Interpret engineering drawings and GD&T specifications to produce accurate parts, then inspect finished components using standard measuring tools to verify compliance. Support shop throughput by preparing setups, proving out programs, reducing downtime, and communicating issues early. Assist the Machine Shop Manager with scheduling priorities, due dates, and material readiness, providing backup coverage when unavailable. Perform routine equipment checks, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting on assigned machines. Identify practical improvements to cycle times, setup efficiency, and overall shop performance.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of CNC machining experience in a production or job shop environment
- Strong CNC lathe programming, setup, and operating experience
Desired Qualifications
- CNC mill experience
- Proficiency with CAM programming software; Fusion or GibbsCAM experience
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and inspection methods
- Strong knowledge of tooling, tool selection, workholding, feeds, speeds, and setup best practices
- Ability to work independently while also supporting the overall shop team
- Good communication skills and willingness to coordinate with engineering, purchasing, and production as needed
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
