Job Summary
Operate CNC water jet and plasma cutting machines to produce components meeting naval specifications and industry standards. Read and interpret complex blueprints, create cutting layouts using CAD software, and set up materials with precision. Perform quality control using measurement tools to verify dimensions and tolerances. Conduct routine maintenance, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, and adhere to strict safety protocols including proper PPE and ventilation. Safely load and unload materials using forklifts. Work in a fast-paced shipyard environment, frequently requiring overtime, with consistent exposure to extreme temperatures and hazardous conditions.

- Ability to use precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, tape measures)
- Ability to read and accurately interpret complex naval blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
- Excellent manual dexterity
- Attention to detail
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift materials up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in a workshop environment
- Knowledge and adherence to safety practices related to operating industrial machinery, working with high-pressure water jets, plasma systems, and handling hazardous materials
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong mathematical abilities, including understanding measurements, conversions, and geometric calculations
- Experience in safely operating forklifts or other material-handling equipment in a manufacturing environment
- Skilled in the use of power tools and general shop equipment
- High school graduate, or GED
- Six months to one-year related experience and/or training
- Most work performed will be onboard a ship, in a dry dock or shipyard under fast- paced conditions
- Frequently requiring overtime
- Consistent exposure to extreme temperatures, outdoor elements, high noise levels, toxic or caustic chemicals and dusty conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience with CNC water jet and plasma cutting systems
- Experience using and/or programming manual, semi-automated, or automated machines such as CNC mills or lathes
- Familiarity with various material types, thicknesses, and understanding how these materials affect cutting processes
- Completion of a vocational school program or apprenticeship related to CNC machine operation, fabrication, or welding
