CNC Machinist Lathe Set Up Operator - 2nd Shift

Job Summary

Machine setup, operation, and startup of CNC milling machines to machine metallic and non-metallic workpieces, adjusting tooling and offsets to maintain proper sizes. Verify conformance of work pieces to specifications using micrometers, calipers, and gauges while loading tools and installing workholding. Perform daily preventative maintenance including coolant checks, filter replacements, and machine cleaning. Adjust machine speed and feed rates per part specifications and interpret GD&T blueprints to create parts within tight tolerances. This 2nd shift role (4:30pm–1:00am) requires 3+ years of CNC experience in vertical and horizontal milling, with a sign-on bonus available for Carol Stream candidates.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a CNC related field
  • Experience in vertical and horizontal milling machines setup
  • Ability to quickly use the control panel to do offsets and edits on 2-3 of the FMS machinery
  • Tolerance: Ability to machine parts to +/- 0.0005" for diameter and +/- 0.001" for length
  • Ability to read and interpret GD&T blueprints to the needed specification in creating a part
  • Regularly required to stand and reach the duration of shift, 8-10 hours
  • Frequently required to talk or hear
  • Frequently required to perform repetitive or short-cycle work
  • Occasionally required to walk; sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend
  • Regularly lift, push or pull up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in which 20/20 or corrected vision to 20/20 vision is required
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles resulting from metalworking coolants and oils
  • Frequently exposed to and required to move warm/hot parts and machine sparks
  • Frequently exposed to compressed and cryogenic gases
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally loud, requiring hearing protection
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately in noisy environments
  • Must also have close, distance, and peripheral vision, with the ability to adjust focus and judge depth
  • Color vision is required as well
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to complete training during first shift hours
  • Due to ITAR regulations, only U.S. persons—defined as U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders), and U.S. nationals—are eligible for this position
