CNC Machinist
On-siteBirmingham, Alabama, United States
Job Summary
Setup, run, and inspect mission-critical aerospace components using advanced 5-axis machines and mill-turn centers, leveraging deep manual machining fundamentals to troubleshoot chatter and optimize tool pressure. Establish offsets, build workholding strategies, and read/edit G-code and M-code on the floor to maximize throughput and restore quality. Hold tight tolerances from the first piece through final inspection using manual micrometers, indicators, and precision gauges, while independently conducting First Article Inspections (FAI) and operating CMMs. Troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, and machine variables on the fly to achieve first-article success on both proven and unproven parts. Work day shifts (4 x 10s) Monday through Thursday with consistent overtime opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years in precision, tight-tolerance machining
- Strong tenure in Aerospace manufacturing and machining environments
- Experience in ISO 9001 or AS9100 shops
- Proven ability to hold .0005" (5 tenths / ~13 microns) or tighter on critical features
- Manual skills to verify .0005" tolerance
- Deep understanding of complex blueprints and advanced GD&T (true position, parallelism, profile, concentricity, flatness, coaxiality)
- Extensive experience setting up multi-axis equipment (5-axis mills, mill-turns, and/or multi-axis lathes)
- Comfortable in shops where setup time is 30%+ of the job
- Comfortable handling complex setups with 10+ tools
- Ability to read, understand, and efficiently edit G-code and M-code on the floor
- Ability to troubleshoot dimensional, tooling, and machine variables on the fly
- Ability to achieve first-article success on both proven and unproven parts
