Job Summary
CNC Machine Shop Manager leading development, startup, and operations of a new aerospace-focused CNC machining line. Responsibilities include establishing production flow and facility layout, equipment procurement and validation, standard work and documentation, IQ/OQ/PQ qualification, and first article readiness. Oversees day-to-day shop operations, production planning, KPI dashboards (OEE, scrap, cycle time), staffing strategy, and team development. Provides direct CNC programming leadership (3- to 5-axis, NX CAM and Fusion 360), optimizes tool paths and methods, troubleshoots machining issues, and reviews NC programs. Ensures compliance with AS9100/ISO 9001 and AS9102 for first article inspections, and partners with quality teams on NCR resolution and continuous improvement. Drives lean/Six Sigma initiatives, kaizen events, and automation opportunities. Requires strong leadership, layout/design, and process development experience in aerospace manufacturing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years in CNC machining/manufacturing leadership, preferably in aerospace or defense
- 3+ years managing teams in a machine shop environment
- Strong hands-on CNC programming experience (required)
- Deep understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation
- Experience with precision tolerances (< ±0.001") and exotic aerospace materials (Titanium, Inconel, Aluminum alloys, stainless steels)
- Strong knowledge of fixturing and tooling strategy
- Experience with Mori Seiki, Wells Index & DMG MORI (preferred)
- Experience with NX CAM and post processing (preferred)
- Experience implementing MES/ERP systems in manufacturing (preferred)
- Knowledge of automation/robotic cell integration (preferred)
- Lean or Six Sigma certification (preferred)
