Job Summary
Develop and write CNC programs for lathes using CAM software, analyzing engineering drawings to determine optimal machining processes. Select appropriate cutting tools, holders, and workholding devices, then perform test runs to ensure part quality. Troubleshoot programming and machining issues on the shop floor, documenting program changes and setup sheets while collaborating with machinists and engineers to optimize manufacturing processes. This role requires 5+ years of experience programming CNC lathes and proficiency in G-code, M-code, and CAM software such as Mastercam or Esprit.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience programming CNC lathes
- Proficient in G-code and M-code programming
- Experience with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Esprit)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings
- Strong understanding of tooling, fixturing, and machining processes
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with CAD/CAM software beyond basic part modeling (e.g., SolidWorks CAM, Mastercam)
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize existing CNC programs for efficiency and quality
- Familiarity with various tooling systems and cutting tool materials, and their application in different materials
- Ability to perform basic preventative maintenance on CNC machinery
- Experience with post-processor development or modification
