Job Summary
Setup and operate vertical, horizontal 3-6 axis CNC machining centers and CNC lathes, aligning vises and fixtures with indicators to ensure squareness to reference surfaces. Load and unload programs, modify cutting tools and offsets, and grind tools as required while monitoring oil levels and maintaining proper guarding. Check first parts for dimensional tolerance, deburr components, and prepare fixtures for subsequent jobs. Participate in root cause analysis for quality issues, attend apprentice committee meetings, and complete weekly day-release classes. Follow all health and safety policies, including wearing PPE and practicing good housekeeping, while lifting materials up to 50 pounds. Read blueprints, interpret geometric tolerances, and identify opportunities for improvement through new tooling and programming changes.
Required Qualifications
- Basic computer skills
- Fanuc control knowledge
- Mazak control knowledge
- Ability to use all the available measuring tools such as micrometer, dial gauges, deep micrometer, vernier, measuring block, and height gauges
- Ability to create layouts, read and interpret blue prints and drawings
- Full understanding of geometric tolerances
- Ability to identify wear of cutting tools (inserts, drills, end mills, boring bars, etc.)
- Ability to change and set cutting tools
- Experience in the aerospace industry
- Must be able to attend a day release class once per week for the education portion of the apprenticeship
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment such as hard hat, safety shoes, safety goggles, ear plugs, fitted dust mask, etc. as required
- Frequent lifting of heavy material up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to run multiple machines at one time
- Must work under deadlines and related stresses in a timely manner
- Must be able to handle various personnel and other situations as they arise in a professional manner (handle conflict and directions)
