Job Summary
Instruct high school students in Nursing Aide and Patient Care Technician (PCT) curriculum, providing hands-on experiences and supervising clinical rotations in local nursing homes for seven to ten 8-hour shifts. Develop and maintain a clean, organized classroom and lab environment conducive to learning, while integrating technology and current occupational competencies into technical skill development. Prepare for assigned classes, document student progress and grades, and enforce school policies and administrative regulations. Requires a current Virginia RN or LPN license with direct patient care experience, CPR/First Aid instructor certification preferred, and the ability to manage a classroom of high school learners.
Required Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of managing a Nursing Aide classroom and curriculum to include basic nursing skills, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and infection control.
- 3 - 5 years of experience working with high school students, especially in basic nursing skills.
- Willingness to be flexible and adapt to change.
- Enthusiasm for the teaching profession and desire to work with high school-aged students.
- Ability to take initiative and maintain control of the classroom.
- Thorough knowledge of instructional methods and presentation strategies for high school student learners.
- Ability to create a classroom/laboratory that fosters mutual respect with students and an exciting, positive, project-based learning environment.
- Current, unrestricted Virginia License as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
- At least one year of direct patient care experience as a registered nurse (for RN candidates).
- High school diploma or equivalent (for LPN candidates).
- Graduated from a state-approved practical nursing program (for LPN candidates).
- At least two years of direct patient care experience as a licensed practical nurse (for LPN candidates).
- Demonstrated competence to teach adults or high school students through documented coursework or prior teaching experience that meets Virginia Board of Nursing requirements.
Desired Qualifications
- CPR/First Aid Health Care Provider instructor or BLS (Basic Life Support) instructor certificate preferred but not required.
