Job Summary
Conduct daily huddles with patient care teams, prepare charts, and review registries to identify preventative care needs. Assist providers during exams by obtaining vitals, performing screenings, preparing sterile fields, and processing phlebotomy specimens. Administer medications and vaccines, including intramuscular and intradermal injections, as directed. Serve as a preceptor for new staff and support occasional coverage for other ambulatory offices. Handle administrative calls and participate in workflow process improvement and quality initiatives. This role supports MAHEC's mission to improve health in western North Carolina through compassionate healthcare and innovative health professions education.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current CPR certification
- Regular attendance on-site
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm schedule
- 40 hours per workweek
- Flexibility for weekend, holiday, or evening coverage
- Flexibility to respond to special work assignments or evening activities
- Valid, original I-9 documents
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications
- Knowledge and experience documenting patient care in an electronic health record
- Phlebotomy experience for patients of all ages
- Lift and carry 25 - 35 lbs
- Push/Pull 50 - 100 lbs (empty bed, stretcher, etc.)
- Frequent (34 - 66% of Workday) physical demands
Desired Qualifications
- Associate's degree
- 1 – 2 years of medical assisting experience in a primary care ambulatory setting
- Certification as a Medical Assistant through AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT
- Experience as a EMT or CNA
- Experience working in an Employee Health Record (EHR)
- Spanish speaking skills
