Job Summary
Provide personal aspects of care for patients, including bathing, oral hygiene, skin care, feeding, and transferring them to meet comfort and hygiene goals. Monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respirations, then report any changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse for intervention. Maintain patient charts, restock supplies, and ensure a clean, safe environment while strictly maintaining privacy and confidentiality. Work 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday coverage, standing and moving rapidly to coordinate activities under RN supervision. Participate in required hospice training, including 15 hours of CEUs annually and a Memorial Service.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certified Nursing Assistant certificate from college, technical school or equivalent training program
- Minimum one year recent experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant
- Influenza vaccine during influenza season
- Current CNA certification
- CPR Certification
- Valid Driver's license
- Car Insurance per Columbus Hospice policy
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

- Must participate in hospice training as required, to include 15 hours of CEUs/year and competency check per policy
- Must attend and/or participate in one Memorial Service per year
- Must represent the company in a positive and professional manner at all times with others, e.g., co-workers, management, vendors, and customers
- Must complete all job responsibilities in a thorough and complete manner, utilizing good judgment in all aspects of the job
- Must proactively seek the assistance of immediate supervisor when unsure of a directed task or any part of job responsibilities
- Must ensure job responsibilities are met, including attendance requirements and prompt arrival at work
- Must assist with special projects, as requested
- Must be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
- Must be frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles
- Must be occasionally required to sit and taste or smell
- Must be exposed to variable environments, cigarette smoke, and pets
