Job Summary
CNA/HHA providing personal and hospice care under RN supervision. Responsible for performing patient personal care tasks, monitoring and reporting changes, communicating with patients and families, maintaining safety and comfort, assisting with activities of daily living, and supporting the interdisciplinary team in delivering compassionate hospice services. Key duties include assistance with baths, grooming, feeding, mobility and transfers, meal preparation, vital signs as ordered, medication reminders within state regulations, documentation per plan of care, and providing respite for families. The role emphasizes empathy, clear communication, autonomy, adherence to care procedures, and maintaining a respectful, clean living environment for patients. Requires active CNA (and CA HHA where applicable) certification, CPR, driving ability, and completion of required training hours; prior hospice or community health experience is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in good standing
- California Regulation: Must be a CNA in good standing AND must have a current Home Health Aide (HHA) certification in good standing in the State of California
- Current CPR certification
- Minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training
- Licensed driver with automobile insured and in good working order
- Willingness to submit to a criminal background check prior to hire and annually thereafter
- Ability to read and follow written instructions
- An understanding of hospice philosophy and comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill
- Ability to work autonomously with little direct supervision
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility in work hours to ensure care per plan of care
- Empathy for the needs of the ill and comfort with discussing death/dying
- Calm demeanor in patients' homes
- Knowledge of plan of care documentation
