Job Summary
CMT Technician II performs both field and laboratory testing in multiple disciplines (e.g., asphalt, concrete, coatings, steel, piling, soils) to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. The role supports senior technicians and may work in drilling or soils labs; requires reading and interpreting project plans, following procedures per ASTM/ACI/AASHTO standards, and producing complex reports with minimal supervision. Must have 12+ months of experience in construction engineering technology and hold certification as Concrete Field Testing Technician (Grade I) with ACI or equivalent, plus TWIC and at least one industrial certification (ACI/AWS/CWI/NICET/ICC/LaDOTD/MDOT/TXDOT). Strong communication skills, ability to identify and convey problematic workmanship/material issues, and proficiency with project-management software/tools are essential. Physical demands include regular lifting (50+ pounds) and exposure to demanding field conditions; requires a valid driver’s license and adherence to safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Certification in Concrete Field Testing Technician (Grade I) with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) or equivalent
- TWIC credential
- Certification in at least one of the following: ACI, AWS, CWI, NICET, ICC, LaDOTD, MDOT, TXDOT
