Job Summary
Conduct material testing for Hot Mix Asphalt, concrete, soils, and aggregates in the field, laboratory, or plant to ensure compliance with TxDOT and City of Austin specifications. Perform daily quality control and assurance sampling, maintain laboratory equipment, and calibrate instruments while accurately logging all activities for reporting. Provide technical support to roadway personnel, monitor incoming data streams, and escalate complex issues to project managers. Work independently up to 60 hours per week with up to 50% travel, requiring flexibility for day or night shifts and off hours.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years in the construction industry
- ability to work independently while supporting local and statewide offices
- Proven ability to read and comprehend plans, specifications, and test procedures
- Working knowledge of concrete, soils, base, and asphalt pavements
- Experience in highway or building construction, with a history of working effectively with contractors and owners
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Current TxAPA Level 1A, 1B, SB102 and ACI Field Grade 1
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other technical tools for material testing
- Proficiency in preparing and documenting test result in accordance with TXDOT standards and project requirements
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
- Willingness to work day or night shifts, as well as 'off hours' when needed
- Flexibility to transition between field testing, inspection duties, and laboratory testing responsibilities as required
- Availability to work up to 60 hours per week, as needed
- Willing to learn and work any shift that is needed
Desired Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in the construction industry, with a focus on HMA, concrete, soils, and aggregates
- Preferred certifications: TxAPA Level 1A, 1B, SB101, SB102, and ACI Field Grade 1
- Knowledge of TXDOT and City of Austin testing procedures
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel Spreadsheets
