Job Summary
Entry-level CMT Field Technician 1 to perform field and plant inspections for HMA and/or PCC production, conduct sampling and testing of construction materials, monitor contractor compliance with project specifications and quality standards, document and report test results accurately and timely, communicate findings to project engineers and contractors, maintain and calibrate testing equipment, assist in resolving material-related construction issues, participate in safety meetings and adhere to safety protocols, and support project documentation and closeout processes.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Science, or related field OR High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in construction materials testing, inspection, or quality assurance
- Experience with Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and/or Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) plant inspection (minimum 1 year)
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I Certification (preferred or required)
- Caltrans Acceptance Tester Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Nuclear Gauge Safety Certification (for HMA testing)
- OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
- Valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with data entry and reporting software (e.g., SiteManager, LIMS)
- Familiarity with nuclear density gauges, slump cones, air meters, and other field testing equipment
- Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, Caltrans construction materials standards
- Knowledge of quality control/quality assurance procedures in construction materials testing
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including occasional overnight stays
- Strong attention to detail and safety
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
