Job Summary
Maintain order and discipline while enforcing laws and district policies to provide a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. Proactively identify hazards, prevent threats from escalating, and respond to all levels of safety, security, and emergency needs. Patrol assigned buildings, parking lots, and grounds on foot and by vehicle to detect illegal activities and suspicious behavior, while validating exterior doors and monitoring security systems. Use restorative practices to resolve conflicts, refer students to support services, and build relationships through a consistent visible presence. Assist in executing safety drills, conduct preliminary investigations of policy violations, and coordinate with administrators and law enforcement during incidents. Work up to 40 hours outside scheduled hours for events and provide security at school functions.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- First Aid and CPR certification or commitment to achieve certification within 60 days of hiring
- Two (2) years of experience working with students, and/or two (2) years of experience in military, law enforcement, school security or equivalent experience
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs
- Must wear closed-toe, secure footwear suitable for rapid movement
- Must wear District-issued uniform shirts at all times while on duty
- Must be able to work up to 40 hours of work outside of normal scheduled hours per month as needed (evenings and weekends)
- Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
- Must maintain emotional control under stress
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
Desired Qualifications
- Understanding of childhood development and behavior management
- Basic computer skills
- Strong communication skills, both orally and written
- Ability to follow complex oral and written instruction
