Job Summary

Conduct biological specimen collection, including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation, and transportation, while verifying specimen type, integrity, and accurate requisition details. Perform laboratory testing procedures across all patient care areas, analyzing specimens for Coagulation, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and other disciplines using established protocols and quality control measures. Accession specimens into the computer system, document non-blood specimen collection, and troubleshoot instrument failures or downtime procedures. Complete pre-, analytical, and post-analytical responsibilities, including maintaining records, preparing end-of-shift reports, and managing inventory. Oversee and delegate duties to Laboratory Technical Assistants, cross-train in all eight laboratory disciplines, and provide orientation and training for new personnel and students. Answer telephone calls, resolve customer service complaints, and ensure timely reporting of results and critical values.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform jobs in all patient care and operational areas subject to reasonable accommodations
  • Must be able to employ all mandatory safety devices and procedures
  • Must know operational procedure for the Computerized Tube System
  • Must know down time procedure for both the computer and instrumentation and the process for reporting computer problems on the off shifts
  • Must be familiar with send out procedures for after hour transport of send out testing
  • Must know the send out procedure for down instrumentation
  • Must be able to carryout instructions while working alone with little supervision
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff within the laboratory
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or equivalent discipline
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist licensed in the State of California
  • Continuing education as required by the state to maintain licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)

Desired Qualifications

  • Internship for one (1) year in an approved program for Medical Technology preferred
