Job Summary
Maintain rescue readiness by wearing full uniform gear, holding a rescue tube, and practicing skills to render effective aid. Position yourself to protect your entire assigned zone, ensuring full visibility of the pool bottom and deck. Aggressively scan the area while enforcing non-swimmer protection rules and taking immediate corrective action for risky behavior. Clear the pool immediately if safety is compromised or if you cannot fulfill core functions. Attend mandatory training, document incidents within 24 hours, and perform assigned off-scan duties like water chemistry testing. Find coverage for shifts and notify supervisors if unable to work.
Required Qualifications
- Current YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
- A.E.D certification
- Basic First Aid certification
- Redwoods training
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and members
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently as well as within teams
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to details
- Extremely reliable, dependable, and punctual
- Good decision-making skills
- Ability to take initiative and be self-motivated
- Ability to use a computer for email, Internet, and any Y related software relevant to the position
- Willingness to work all open pool hours, including holidays and weekends
- Must be at least 15 years of age
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable vehicle
- Ability to travel locally
- Ability to frequently move, lift, pull and push objects up to 50 lbs
- Ability to operate equipment and perform simple manipulative tasks
- Ability to continuously perform tasks requiring hand-eye coordination
- Ability to frequently sit for prolonged periods
- Ability to walk, stand, stoop, squat, kneel, twist, bend, reach, climb stairs, and remain in uncomfortable positions
- Ability to continuously articulate and communicate clearly and precisely
- Ability to continuously deal effectively with stress
- Ability to demonstrate competency in all skills and activities required to obtain, maintain, and renew lifeguard, CPR, AED and first aid certifications
- Ability to continuously read small print and adjust focus
- Ability to continuously hear normal sounds and voice patterns
- Ability to continuously concentrate on moderate details with frequent interruption
- Ability to frequently attend to tasks for up to 45 minutes at a time
- Ability to frequently understand and relate to ideas
- Ability to frequently remember verbal and written tasks
