Job Summary
Conduct screening, intake, orientation, and assessment of clients to obtain information concerning substance abuse and medical history. Implement therapeutic treatment using approved methods of planning, counseling, case management, and crisis intervention to assist clients in overcoming substance abuse disorders. Consult with a medical doctor or other specialists concerning the treatment plan and amend the plan as directed. Provide information and education to individuals and groups concerning substance abuse, mental health, and available services. Refer clients to supportive services and assist with direct client care, including safety checks, laundry, and meal distribution. Prepare and maintain records on assigned caseload and issue reports. Requires a Master's degree in behavioral sciences, two years counseling experience, and an LCSW/LADC/LPC/LMFT license or eligibility within two years. Schedule is as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in the behavioral sciences
- Two (2) years experience in counseling
- LCSW/LADC/LPC/LMFT or license eligible within two years of hire date
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of counseling
- Ability to gather, analyze, and evaluate information pertinent to the care of clients
- Knowledge of the physical, psychological, social, and economic effects of substance abuse, homelessness, medical and mental health issues
- Knowledge of community resources
- Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to project a professional image
- Valid Connecticut driver's license
