Job Summary

Clinical Veterinarian providing comprehensive veterinary care for laboratory animals with independent professional judgment and full autonomy in clinical decision-making. Responsibilities include daily clinical oversight, diagnosis and treatment, prescription and monitoring of medications, maintenance of medical records, compliance with USDA, AAALAC, OLAW, and institutional policies, collaboration with IACUC and investigators on protocol development, and leadership in veterinary care programs. Requires availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis and readiness to respond to emergency situations; ACLAM credentials and residency/board certification are preferred. This role supports biomedical research and ensures animal welfare standards across multiple Center for Comparative Medicine facilities, with duties ranging from clinical rounds to training and mentorship of staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD)
  • Two years of relevant experience in Laboratory Animal Medicine
  • Licensed Veterinarian by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. Provisional license is accepted at the time of hire, however, Veterinary License by the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners must be obtained within six months of hire.
