Job Summary
Clinical Technician II in inpatient Duke Health laboratories performing routine and specialized procedures to support patient diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities include specimen procurement, processing, and evaluation; phlebotomy and specimen management; cytogenetics, general laboratory testing, point-of-care testing, and urinalysis; proper labeling, volume determination, and accessioning of specimens; professional communication with patients and healthcare staff; use of hospital information systems; quality control, safety, and infection control procedures; distribution of supplies and reports; and related clerical tasks. Requires a high school diploma or GED, with preferred phlebotomy training, and 2+ years of relevant clinical laboratory experience for advancement to Clinical Technician II; multiple national phlebotomy/certification options are recognized.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or GED; completion of a structured phlebotomy training course and clinical rotation recommended for phlebotomy assignment
- Experience: Clinical Technician II requires at least 2 years’ experience as Clinical Tech I or equivalent experience; for II level, competency in specified responsibilities and related tasks
- Certification: Phlebotomy certification may be required for Phlebotomy Services; BLS certification preferred; various nationally recognized phlebotomy or clinical laboratory certification options listed for Phlebotomy/Clinical Lab roles
