Job Summary
Clinical Support Specialist provides clinical support in functions such as prior authorizations, DME orders, and other duties supporting clinical workflows and patient care. Responsible for assisting providers with payor approvals, managing documents for medication prior authorizations, DME orders, and accessing payor websites and databases (e.g., Cover My Meds, OptumRx). Proficient in EPIC charting and in-basket management; coordinates with patients and providers, schedules follow-ups, communicates payment responsibilities, and participates in quality improvement and clinical audits. Requires Medical Assistant competencies, CPR within 90 days, and travel up to 15% within the state; supports confidentiality and HIPAA compliance and collaborates across pediatrics, women’s health, family medicine, or dental service lines. Strong emphasis on accuracy, adaptability, teamwork, and patient-centered care.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Medical Assistant Certification or 1+ year of equivalent experience
- Experience across more than one service line and the ability to independently manage assigned clinical workflows with minimal supervision
- Proficient in Medical Assistant core competencies
- Must complete and pass CPR course within 90 days of employment
- Ability to travel 15% or more within state between clinics
- Proficient computer skills, including data entry and typing
- Knowledge of instrumentation used in lab point-of-care testing, as directed, within 90 days
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information private in accordance with HIPAA and Variety Care policy
- Ability to effectively communicate with the patient population
- Ability to work in a multi-faceted, fast-paced work environment
