Job Summary
Develop comprehensive onboarding and training programs for new scribes and technicians, providing hands-on instruction in ophthalmic terminology, EHR workflows, and physician-specific documentation standards. Mentor existing staff, assess trainee progress, and conduct routine audits of clinical documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with MACRA/MIPS requirements. Perform medical scribing duties as needed to document patient encounters and support efficient clinic productivity while traveling regularly between practice locations to facilitate competency evaluations and staff development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- Previous ophthalmic scribing experience
- Advanced knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) and demonstrated proficiency in documentation workflows
- Excellent communication, listening, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to teach, coach, and mentor others in a professional and supportive manner
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Must possess reliable transportation and maintain a valid driver's license
- Ability to travel locally on a regular basis, with occasional travel outside the immediate service area as business needs dictate
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification
- Experience training, onboarding, or supervising clinical staff
- Knowledge of MACRA/MIPS quality measures and ophthalmic documentation requirements
