Job Summary
The Clinical Pharmacist – Emergency Department at Lutheran Hospital provides decentralized, front-line pharmacotherapy support within the Emergency Department, reviewing and verifying medication orders, offering real-time pharmacotherapy recommendations, supporting antimicrobial stewardship, and serving as the primary pharmacy resource during trauma activations, stroke alerts, cardiac arrests, and other emergent events. The role collaborates with physicians, APPs, nurses, and other care providers to optimize therapy, contributes to medication safety initiatives, ensures regulatory and accreditation compliance, and participates in education for students, residents, and caregivers. The position blends direct patient care, clinical decision-making, emergency response, and operational workflow within a fast-paced environment with scheduled weekday shifts and a weekend rotation; no on-call requirements. “Caregiver” responsibilities include safe dispensing, documentation, and maintaining professional working relationships while delivering evidence-based medication services. The role emphasizes patient-centered care, medication education, and adherence to state and federal regulations, with ongoing opportunities to participate in interdisciplinary care and quality initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- PharmD or Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy
- Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire
- Immunization administration training or certification requirements within 90 days of hire (if administering immunizations)
