Job Summary
Ambulatory clinical pharmacist role coordinating pharmacotherapeutic and pharmacokinetic principles to ensure safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication use in outpatient settings. Responsibilities include reviewing patient orders for therapeutic appropriateness, contacting prescribers to optimize therapy and cost, supervising pharmacy technicians and interns, delivering patient education about medications, participating in education of healthcare practitioners, and contributing to quality improvement programs. Additional duties cover specialized outpatient and retail/specialty pharmacy responsibilities (SDPMP, MAP, and patient care planning) and adherence to policies and regulatory standards. Requires Doctor of Pharmacy or PharmD, RI licensure, immunization and BLS certifications, and 2–3 years of related experience; immunizations/administration duties may apply after certification; occasional travel between facilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
- Current unrestricted licensure as a licensed pharmacist in the State of Rhode Island (or 90-day temporary pharmacist license with full licensure before expiration)
- ACPE approved Immunization Certification and American Heart Association BLS Certification (within 6 months for positions performing immunizations/medication administrations)
- Two to three years of progressively more responsible related experience preferred
- Knowledge of pharmacy information systems, EHRs, automated dispensing technology and PCs
- Occasional travel between facilities or sites as required
