Clinical Oncology Social Worker

Job Summary

Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide brief, evidence-based behavioral health interventions to adult cancer patients and support persons at the Center for Health and Healing and Radiation Medicine. Coordinate care, refer to community resources for financial or housing assistance, and advocate for patients within medical and community settings. Deliver crisis intervention, facilitate support groups, and counsel families on treatment decisions, advanced care planning, and grief. Participate in tumor boards, multi-disciplinary clinics, and disease-specific team meetings to support treatment planning. Complete HAIP Psychosocial and Caregiver assessments for specific treatments and cross-cover team members during absences. Requires Master's Social Work and LCSW certification; role involves in-person presence at OHSU with limited remote options.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's Social Work (MSW)
  • Certificate of Clinical Social Work Associate (CSWA) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Healthcare experience
  • Experience in behavioral/mental health counseling and application of brief, short-term therapy strategies
  • Clinical behavioral health skills including mental health assessment acumen and short-term counseling skills
  • Crisis Intervention skills
  • Effective communication skills, including conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of Trauma informed and patient-centered care
  • Ability to practice with minimal supervision using sound clinical judgement
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anti-oppressive practices
  • Must be available for weekend shifts
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Desired Qualifications

  • Health care experience preferred
  • This requirement may be waived in lieu of an applicant's lived experience
  • Licensed in Washington
  • 2 years Oncology Social Work Experience
  • Experience as a behavioral health clinician in a healthcare setting
  • Bilingual/Second language proficiency
  • Bicultural
  • Experience working with diverse identity populations
