Job Summary
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate specialist nursing care for patients with complex endocrine disorders including thyroid, pituitary, adrenal, and metabolic bone diseases. Coordinate endocrine investigations, monitor hormone replacement therapies, and deliver outpatient, inpatient, and telephone-based support services. Provide education to patients and families on disease management and lifestyle modifications while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop clinical pathways. Mentor students and newly appointed staff, participate in research and quality improvement initiatives, and ensure seamless transitions of care. Required Qualifications
- Current registration as a Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and in good professional standing
- A minimum of five years' post-registration nursing experience in an acute medical setting
- Willingness to undertake a structured in-house training programme and develop specialist endocrinology knowledge and skills under the guidance of the Endocrinology Team
- Demonstrated teaching, leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to support patients, families, and healthcare professionals
- Excellent organisational, multitasking, and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload effectively and manage competing demands
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present information clearly, liaise effectively with stakeholders, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Proven ability to plan, organise, adapt to change, and contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and national healthcare strategies
- Professional, motivated, and innovative approach to practice, with up-to-date clinical knowledge, experience in audit and data collection activities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care
Desired Qualifications
- A recognised post-registration qualification relevant to the specialty area at Level 9
- Previous experience in endocrinology, diabetes/endocrinology, or medical nursing is desirable, with a strong interest in developing specialist expertise in endocrinology
