Clinical Nurse, RN – Per Diem Level III | Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) | Days

Job Summary

Conduct comprehensive neonatal assessments and develop evidence-based care plans for critically ill and medically complex neonates across the full spectrum of acuity. Manage complex respiratory support modalities including mechanical ventilation, HFOV, CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula while administering high-risk medications such as vasopressors, inotropes, and surfactant. Initiate and maintain vascular access including umbilical catheters and PICCs, monitor thermoregulation, and recognize and escalate emergencies like sepsis, NEC, and IVH. Support family-centered care by engaging parents, facilitating kangaroo care, and educating families on infant cues and NICU procedures. Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record, delegate tasks to non-licensed personnel, and participate in unit performance improvement programs and education committees. Requires an active DC RN license, three years of NICU experience, and BLS/NRP certification. Shifts run 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM with three 12-hour shifts per week; hourly rate is $75.00.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum three (3) years of bedside RN experience in a NICU setting
  • Current, active RN license in the District of Columbia
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification through the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
  • Level III or IV NICU setting experience
  • Two weekends per month (24 hours/month)
  • Every other major holiday required (New Year's, Thanksgiving, Christmas)
  • Additional coverage expected for Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Nationally recognized nursing certification in neonatal nursing (e.g., RNC-NIC)
