Job Summary

Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team to determine health goals, revise care plans, and establish patient independence through education on conditions, medications, and self-care. Provide nursing care consistent with institutional standards while serving as charge nurse after orientation, and participate in unit performance improvement programs to enhance quality indicators and core measures. Adhere to infection-control protocols, medication administration procedures, and HIPAA privacy policies; document patient services, maintain equipment inventories, and troubleshoot malfunctions. Resolve patient problems using multidisciplinary strategies, ensure safe working environments, and attend mandatory compliance training including Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support. Maintain professional relationships with staff, physicians, and hospital officials while promoting adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates Degree
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia
  • Maintains active American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
  • Maintains active American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification
  • 2+ years of clinical experience in nursing upon hire or after completion of HUH's Professional Nurses Clinical Advancement Program (PNCAP) and 18 months of employment at HUH
  • Competence in both oral and written English
  • Knowledge of pharmacology of various drugs and their therapeutic and adverse actions and complications
  • Knowledge of professional nursing and biopsychosocial principles, theories, concepts, and their adaptation to nursing practice
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrates competency in clinical skills
  • Demonstrates competency in bedside manner
  • Demonstrates competency in infection control
  • Demonstrates competency in physiological knowledge
  • Demonstrates competency in administering medication
  • Demonstrates competency in medical teamwork

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
