Job Summary
Provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for the Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU), ensuring alignment with strategic goals and high standards of patient care. Monitor clinical practice, advocate for patients, and maintain compliance with professional standards while leading team recruitment, performance management, and mentoring. Coordinate multidisciplinary communication with Anaesthetists, Surgeons, and Allied Health Professionals to ensure seamless perioperative care. Oversee unit operations including workforce planning, budget management, and equipment utilisation, while driving continuous quality improvement, risk management, and regulatory compliance. Maintain a safe clinical environment through infection prevention practices and promote strong relationships with patients, families, and external stakeholders. Requires current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, five years post-registration experience including two in leadership, and proficiency with Meditech systems.
Required Qualifications
- Current registration as a General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland in good standing
- Minimum of five years' post-registration nursing experience
- At least two years in a progressive leadership or management role
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership, teaching, mentoring, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
- Capacity to effectively manage multiple priorities
- Comprehensive knowledge of Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) nursing practices and perioperative patient care
- Ability to deliver age-appropriate, patient-centred care and education tailored to individual patient and family needs
- Strong understanding and application of AORN and European standards for post-operative nursing practice
- Experience in identifying, coordinating, and supporting the education and professional development needs of clinical staff
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate clinical documentation and incident reporting in accordance with organisational and regulatory requirements
