Job Summary
Coordinate day-to-day operations of the designated nursing unit by supervising staff, monitoring patient acuity and flow, and adjusting assignments as needs change. Act as a clinical resource to nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members by demonstrating procedures, answering clinical questions, and providing input on performance planning. Assist the Operations Leader in assessing staff development needs, orienting new employees, and promoting research and quality improvement initiatives. Perform direct nursing care for assigned patients and advocate for patient and family concerns. Collaborate with the team to identify learning needs, implement educational strategies, and make recommendations for policy and equipment changes.
Required Qualifications
- Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant
- Qualifications required of staff nurse in clinical area
- Three years of recent related experience in clinical specialty
- Equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Ability to supervise
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service
- Ability to deal with and promote change
- Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
- Ability to teach, coach, and provide clinical supervision
- Ability to collaborate with other members of a interdisciplinary team
- Ability to match skills of staff with clinical needs
- Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN or a practicing RPN registrant (for mental health services and extended and intermediate care services)
- Ability to accept responsibility for ensuring contact information is accurate
- Ability to be informed during the 48 hour acceptance window
- Ability to accept or decline the offer within 48 hours
- Ability to pass a criminal record check (if required)
