Job Summary
Assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care for a diverse adult population on the 5 North General Medicine/Hematology-Oncology unit, delivering compassionate support and managing central venous access, sterile dressing changes, and infusion administration. Administer medications and IV therapies safely, recognize clinical deterioration to activate Rapid Response teams, and provide comprehensive patient education on disease processes and self-care. Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including palliative care, pharmacy, and therapy to ensure safe transitions, while documenting outcomes in the electronic health record and communicating via SBAR. Serve as charge nurse when approved, lead unit performance improvement programs, and maintain equipment inventories and preventive maintenance schedules. Work full-time day shifts (7:30 AM–8:00 PM) with three 12-hour shifts weekly, including every other weekend and holiday requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Two (2) or more years of clinical nursing experience upon hire
- Completion of HUH's Professional Nurses Clinical Advancement Program (PNCAP)
- Eighteen (18) months of employment at HUH
- Current, active RN license in the District of Columbia
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to evaluate patient care
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care
- Demonstrated competency in medical-surgical nursing assessment
- Able to work in a stressful environment with multiple demands

Desired Qualifications
- Prior bedside experience in a medical-surgical, hematology-oncology, or progressive care setting
- Experience with Soarian Clinicals or a comparable electronic health record
