Clinical Nurse Coordinator - Thoracic Head Neck and Specialty Clinic

Job Summary

Assess physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of patients while developing and modifying care plans based on disease progression and treatment response. Educate patients, families, and caregivers on chemotherapy, central lines, and symptom management; perform dressing changes, medication administration, and injections. Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and ancillary services, manage telephone and email triage, and handle prescription refills and FMLA paperwork. Collaborate with research teams for patients on trials and ensure continuity of care with outside providers. Document all nursing activities accurately and participate in quality improvement initiatives. This 1.0 FTE, 40-hour/week role supports the Thoracic, Head Neck, and Specialty Clinic at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL)
  • MSL primary state of residence must be updated to WA within 60 days of hire
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross)
  • Critical thinking; the ability to practice the cognitive skills of analyzing, applying standards, discriminating, information seeking, logical reasoning, predicting, and transforming knowledge
  • Ability to develop clinical judgment
  • Time Management skills; the ability to organize and manage time and tasks independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively by looking and listening for cues, asking open-ended questions, exploring cues, using pauses, screening responses, and clarifying response
  • Ability to effectively listen by using reflecting, acknowledging, summarizing, empathizing, and paraphrasing skill
  • Ability to effectively provide information by checking what information the person knows already, giving small amounts of information at a time, using clear terms and avoiding jargon, avoiding detail unless it is requested, checking for understanding, and pausing and waiting for a response

Desired Qualifications

  • BSN prepared nurse
  • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) or BMT RN
  • 2 years of oncology nursing experience
  • Previous telephone triage experience
  • Previous outpatient clinic experience
  • Takes initiative
  • Good communication skills
  • Skilled at multitasking and organization
