Job Summary

Provide, coordinate, and document direct and indirect patient-centered care in the PICU using the nursing process. Assess patients, develop care plans, and intervene while supervising and delegating tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. Lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate within a skills mix environment, applying theoretical concepts to clinical practice. Troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment, manage multiple assignments, and prioritize workload effectively. Maintain active California RN licensure and BLS certification. May participate in on-call rotation or serve as Shift Coordinator after orientation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of one year experience
  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Ability to speak, read and write legibly in English
  • Ability to use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program
  • Ability to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment
  • Ability to perform technical patient care activities
  • Ability to relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others
  • Ability to be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies
  • Ability to lead, supervise, teach and collaborate
  • Ability to accept direction
  • Ability to think critically
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments effectively
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to recall information with accuracy
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care
  • Ability to discern temperature variances through touch
  • Ability to hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone
  • Ability to see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary for position
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation
  • Other certifications required as listed in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to speak, read and write legibly in Spanish
  • Ability to distinguish various sounds associated with the work place
  • Ability to serve in Shift Coordinator role upon completion of Shift Coordinator orientation
